  • Nell from Year 6 donated her competition prize to the school

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Back in 2021 Nell (Y6) kindly donated a £50 amazon voucher that she won as part of a Jane Goodall, Hanson Box competition.

On Nell’s behalf, we have purchased some lovely environmental books for the children, including one about the naturalist Jane Goodall herself.

A big thank you to Nell and her family!

  • More diverse literature for our school library

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

Parent contributions for new books for the library

These are some photos of the stunning new books our wonderful parents and carers, have purchased for the school.  Their generosity has enabled us to buy around £400 of books with black heroes, about black history and by black authors.

We were able to purchase over 50 in total!  These will now be distributed amongst classrooms and into the library to ensure greater diversity in our books stock.

  • 5R Forest School

    Tue 25 Jan 2022

Forest School affords brilliant and fun ways for children to learn about Nature, about teamwork and about themselves!

Year 5R had a wonderful time during their forest school session this week and unleashed their inner creative beasts!  With only a few sticks of chalk and a bit of water, the wooden benches were repurposed into workstations and they were soon crushing and mixing their own 'make up' for application.  Much laughter and squeals of delight could be heard as some of year 5 re-modelled themselves as Shrek and Fiona!  Alongside this, the class were able to have a go at the slackline - balance and team work a key factor for this activity. Well Done everyone!

  • Odd Socks Day - Kindness Week

    Mon 15 Nov 2021

Week Commencing 15th November was Kindness week at Milton Road Primary School/National Anti-bullying Week which is nationally promoted by the Anti-bullying Alliance.  The theme for the week is One Kind Word.

“Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation of the last year has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us. This is one of the reasons, that ‘One Kind Word’ has been chosen as the theme of Anti-Bullying Week taking place from 15 to 19 of November 2021.”

Odd Socks Day was held at the school on Monday 15th November as a simple awareness raiser. Here are a few photos from the day

  • Year 6 - BMX Academy Workshop

Fri 12 Nov 2021 Maya – School Reporter

On Tuesday 9 November, Year 6 had a very exciting day as Mike Mullen, former world champion BMXer, came to Milton Road and gave Year 6 a very motivational assembly about his childhood and his BMX tricks! He taught Year 6 all about flearning (learning from failure), rising above struggles and setbacks, and coming out of their comfort zone.

After the assembly, small groups came to the playground and Mike taught them a series of tricks, such as The Candy Cane, The Titanic, and The Twix! Many people surprised themselves about how many things they could do on a BMX!

  • Wonderful PGL Fund Raiser

Fri 10 Sep 2021 Mrs Snape

Thank you to everyone who made the PGL Fundraiser last week such a fabulous success. There were lots of wonderful stalls selling homemade wares including cakes, bunting, candles and soap. There were lots of sports and games to enjoy and prizes to be won. And there was a wonderful band adding joy to an already brillaint afternoon!

Congratulations to the children and parents for organising this and a special thanks to Giorgis for all the planning and coordinating.

    Mon 22 Feb 2021
We are currently awaiting the news about the 8th of March opening for all pupils. Once we know more, we will communicate our plans to all our parents/carers.
  • Message from the PTA

    Mon 22 Feb 2021

New PTA fundraising model: enjoy our free festive celebration and donate via the school fund

The aims of the PTA are to celebrate our vibrant school community and to raise money for the school. Usually we can combine these aims by getting everybody together. Sadly, this year that is n’t possible. We need to raise funds, whilst acknowledging that every household’s situation is different. Most importantly we hope to share as much cheer as we possibly can within current restrictions.

To adapt to the current situation:

    • We will run free, joy-fuelled events, starting with the ultimate covid-safe Christmas party. This will include Panto, treats, music, games and other surprises. It will take place during the school day within bubbles. Wide eyes and big smiles guaranteed!
    • We encourage you to make voluntary contributions to the school fund. This allows one-off contributions (large or small) as well as regular monthly payments. These regular payments have, in the past, been our second largest source of income, after events, and are vital during this time.
    • We will partner with companies, such Flowers By Elizabeth Jane, who have generously agreed to donate a share of their profits to the school. Lizzie, the owner of Flowers By Elizabeth Jane will donate 20% of orders made before 31st January to the PTA if you state in the comment box that you are a Milton Road parent. Please get in touch (PTA@miltonroad.cambs.sch.uk) if you have a business and are able to make a similar offer.

In past years, the PTA has funded the Key Stage 1 playground, the classroom SMART boards and a host of specific smaller requests from the school – from bean bags for reading nooks, to cameras. This year, as well as putting on events, we will be funding a school-wide maths scheme (Maths no Problem, £11K) and a new phonics scheme (Storytime Phonics, £2.5K).

Covid restrictions have seen our events turnover halve from the 2018-19 to the 2019-20 school year and there is, as-yet, no prospect of running our usual events moving forward. In the last school year, you (via the PTA) donated over £35k to the school. Assuming, with some optimism, that we could run events from the spring, we could hope to raise only about a third of this amount.

In these unequal times we ask those of you who are able to, to give generously to the school fund, bearing in mind how much you might usually spend on PTA events during the year. This type of giving is now more important than ever, so that we can continue to help make the school experience for our children the best it can be.

Finally, and most importantly we hope that you and your children enjoy the festivities that we will be putting on and, like us, feel lucky to be part of this wonderful community!
