Bake Sales - Safety

From time to time the PTA and class groups will organise a Cake Sale. These are always wonderful, social events bringing the community together as well as raising money for worthy causes.

The Food Safety Agency has helpfully produced the following advice for community organisations, to ensure that food is cooked safely and where possible allergen information is displayed.

The allergen labelling law, sometimes called Natasha's Law, applies to registered businesses. As our school is not a registered food business, parents don’t have to provide information for consumers about allergens present in the food as ingredients.

However, the Food Standards Agency recommends that the more information parents can provide about allergens orally or in writing for customers, the better it is, so that everyone can make safe choices, particularly for those with allergies

Please note we would like all our community bakers to avoid the use of nuts in recipes.

We would also advise that children, particularly those who have allergies, are supervised after school and at community events when they are purchasing cakes and treats to ensure that children do not consume anything that may cause them harm.
