First Aid Policy

We would like to remind families of our school’s procedures for managing medical emergencies. We use Medical Tracker, where it logs children's accidents and this is them emailed to parents and careers informing them of the incident. We may also phone families and update you on what has happened. However, this will not happen for minor incidents such as a cut or graze.

The school also holds emergency EpiPens in the KS1 Dining Hall Kitchen for use in cases of suspected anaphylaxis, and regular checks ensure all emergency equipment remains in date and ready for use.

Pupils with asthma should bring their named inhalers to school each day so they can be used promptly if needed.

We have also updated our bumped head guidance: while most head bumps are minor, staff will assess all incidents, inform parents, and take appropriate action depending on symptoms. Minor head bumps are common in school and most are not serious. However, symptoms can occasionally develop later, so all incidents are assessed by a First Aider.

For minor bumps where the child has no symptoms, we apply a cold compress, inform their class teacher, record the incident on medical tracker. If a child shows signs where they are monitored closely, parents are asked to collect them. They will be spoken to by the First Aid lead, or given an information letter. This policy applies to all pupils, staff and visitors to ensure everyone’s safety.

Our site is also equipped with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), located opposite the Medical Room, which trained staff can access quickly during a cardiac emergency.
