Child Protection and Safeguarding is Everyone's Business

As practitioners we know that child protection and safeguarding are paramount.

Every new member of staff undertakes a comprehensive induction that includes detailed information of the policies and procedures surrounding child protection and safeguarding. For existing members of staff Safeguarding Training is updated on an annual basis at the start of the academic year with specific reference to the KCSIE document. 

There are many aspects to child protection and safeguarding including e-safety, mental and emotional health, prevent training, radicalisation and extremism, school attendance, FGM, grooming, child exploitation, whistle blowing.

For this reason Safeguarding training is prioritised and is ongoing throughout the year. Safeguarding updates are mentioned on a weekly basis, at least once per week, through the team briefing meetings every Friday morning. This is to ensure that child protection and safeguarding is uppermost in our minds and to promote our collective ethos, that safeguarding is everyone's business.

Safeguarding and our legal Duty of Care underpins everything we do. This is promoted through a culture that prioritises the safety and well-being of the children and this is manifested through a number of key policies including Keeping Children Safe in Education, The Whistleblowing Policy, The Staff Code of Conduct, The Staff Handbook, The Teachers Standards as well as through our Information Sharing Protocol. (Please see below) Every adult in the school is expected to be duly diligent in their responsibilities across all aspects of Safeguarding policy and procedure, as they hold a special position of trust in our school and in our community, and contribute to our collective school culture. 

The school takes its commitment to induction very seriously and ensures that only those staff who have completed essential safeguarding training are able to start work in in the school. This training not only covers safeguarding policy and our statutory duty of care, but also covers the school's reporting and recording processes including the use of our online system CPOMS. 

The school's Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Nina Burton. Mrs Burton oversees the strategic Induction and On-boarding procedures for new members of the crew as well with other trusteed colleagues the ongoing training for all staff and volunteers. A Staff Handbook is provided for new members of staff who join at the start of September, this includes a great deal of information including Acceptable Working Practices.
