Recently, Year 6 have had the opportunity to work in partnership with TBAP to offer some of their Y10 pupils the chance to develop their Sports Young Leaders skills. As the PE coordinator, I am passionate about the benefits of giving young people training in organising and leading sports within their community.
The youngsters involved have been coming here to work with 6R in a group of 3 or 4 with several adults to support them. Before half term, the students observed and took notes on how PE lessons are structured, how equipment is used and the way pupils are taught and organised. The students watched their PE teacher (Mr Mendonca) take a session which they helped to plan. After each of these lessons they have returned to their school to discuss what they have observed and learned.
Since half term the students have come into school to help lead some sessions on Health Related Fitness and Cricket which they have planned with the help of their PE teacher.
Our children have had extra support in their PE sessions from the additional adults as well as the expertise of a fully trained PE specialist. It has also been lovely for them to see where their PE skills might lead them when they move into Secondary Education - helping younger children in the community.
I'm sure you will agree, this is a great way to promote sport and health whilst collaborating with another local school.
