A very warm welcome to year 2! The children have settled in brilliantly and we are all excited to start our learning journey together. We began the term by getting to know each other, establishing class routines and creating our class agreements linked to our school values. We also thought about our how we learn best in school and what we want to achieve over the course of the year!
Our topic this half term is ‘Toys’. This is really exciting topic and provides plenty of learning opportunities across the curriculum as we explore how they have changed over time. We launched the topic by finding out what the children already know and from this raised some creative lines of enquiry which we will follow over the next few weeks. Of course, this topic lends itself to lots of hands-on learning opportunities, with old toys and new, which the children are really enjoying!
In English, we dived straight in to the adventures of Traction Man by Mini Grey. We explored the story in depth, acted out parts in role and re-invented part of the story with new superhero toys.
Number and place value has been our focus in maths, concentrating on reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers up to 100. Again, there have been lots of practical hands-on learning experiences where the children have been building, drawing, writing about and explaining place value in 2-digit numbers.
We have been very impressed by the quality and quantity of home-learning and we really appreciate your support with this. This will no doubt benefit the children as we go through the year. Thank you!
