Welcome to Year 5 and welcome back to school! We have a wonderful few weeks and are really pleased with how we have settled back into the routines of school so easily after what has been such an unusually long break for many of us.
During our first week, we spent a lot of time rebuilding and connecting with each other. We did this through a variety of different means, one of the most memorable being designing and making a crash-proof container for an egg. This was inspired by Mini Grey's fantastic story, 'Egg Drop'. We were delighted that all of our contraptions worked and kept our egg safe and intact, showing how effectively we had used all the different strengths of our team members!
Our Ancient Greece topic is well underway. We launched by preparing and tasting a Greek salad. This gave us the ideal opportunity to demonstrate how we could pull together as crew and collaborate in culinary creativity. For many children this was the first time they had tried these ingredients and they seemed to go down very well! We have heard reports of many children making a salad again at home - we hope you have been the lucky tasters of their newly acquired recipe.
We are currently exploring the world of Greek vases and deities and will continue to decorate our vases with scenes from mythology or ideas that are important to the young artists.
The science topic has had a successful launch too, with representations and facts about the planets beginning our investigations into Space.
