Awesome African Activities!
This Tuesday, Year 3 took part in an exciting day of fun-filled African Activities. Each class had the chance to learn important symbols and their meaning in African culture, before selecting the ones that best represented them and showing them in an Adinkra printing pattern, which they took home as a souvenir. Everyone shared and experienced tales from other cultures including Romanian, Mexican, Portuguese stories, as well as stories from other religions, e.g. Jewish, Hindu and Islamic stories. They also experienced a storytelling workshop, where they learned the importance of rhythm, call and response and other features of engaging storytelling. Finally, children experienced a wide variety of African instruments, before learning to play the djembe as part of a team performance. Each class accompanied the other's traditional African dance.
We finished off with a performance to showcase all we had learned. We hope you enjoyed it!
