Admission

Admission Policy

Milton Road Primary School is a community school of up to 450 pupils aged between four and eleven years old. Cambridgeshire Local Authority (LA) is responsible for setting the admission arrangements and the Published Admission Number (PAN) of pupils. From September 2004, this number was set at 60 for Foundation Stage places. The school’s PAN remains at 60 but for the year 2009-10 there was an over-admission up to 90 pupils. These pupils are currently in Year 3. All future annual intakes to the school will be 60.

Applications for Foundation Stage places in September 2012 should be made by late December 2011/early January (exact date unavailable at time of print). Full details of how to apply will be available in the Autumn Term 2011.

The LA Contact Officer for Milton Road Primary School is Peter Stephenson, Admissions Officer: admissions@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or 01223 699200 / 699201.

Starting School

It is county policy to admit all children to school in September of the school year in which they will be five, and, by law, all children must start school at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.

The school aims to make the transition into the school setting as smooth as possible.

Transferring to Secondary School

The partner school for Milton Road Primary is Chesterton Community College. Early in the Autumn Term, parents of pupils in Year 6 receive detailed information about all secondary schools together with a preference form. About this time, secondary schools arrange open evenings. Parents are notified of their child’s secondary place towards the end of the Spring Term. The majority of secondary schools offer the opportunity to spend a day in their school at the end of the Summer Term in Year 6. Detailed records about each pupil are forwarded to the allocated secondary school to facilitate continuity and progression in learning.
