Milton Road Primary School PTA aims:

• To raise funds to enable the school to buy facilities or equipment outside the normal school budget and thus advance the education of the pupils;

• To promote a friendly and social atmosphere within and between all pupils, staff, parents, governors and the local community.

The PTA seeks to fulfil its aims through a number of events held throughout the school year to enable both children and adults to socialise and establish a wider network of friends within the school community.

All parents, carers and teachers are automatically members of the Association. The committee is made up of volunteer parents, teacher representatives and the Headteacher as Honorary President. The PTA is always open to new ideas for fundraising and is very grateful to the many parent volunteers who give their time to help make events so successful.

The Governors of Milton Road Primary School are a voluntary body closely involved in the work and running of the school.

The governing body has statutory responsibilities for the school. Its main roles are to: provide strategic direction for the work of the school and improvement of the school; support, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school; hold the school to account for the standards achieved and the quality of education.

Minutes of meetings are displayed on the school website and copies are available on request.

Governors can be contacted via the School Office.

Who are they?

The Governing Body is made up of the Headteacher, staff, parents, community and LEA representatives. All governors have equal status.

The Headteacher
It is a Headteachers' decision whether to be a member of their Governing Body or not. At Milton Road the Headteacher is a member.

Staff Governors
Staff governors are elected by the school staff and are on the school's payroll. Some members must be teachers but others could be support staff.

Parent Governors
Parent governors are elected by other parents. They are the parents or carers of children currently at the school.

Community Governors
Community governors are appointed by the governing body to represent community interests. They are people who work within the Cambridge community and are committed to the success of the school.

LA Governors
LA governors are appointed by the Local Authority. The LA is able to appoint any person they feel is appropriate.

The Clerk
The clerk is paid for her duties. She generally attends main board meetings, handling all the paperwork before and after. She supervises the annual election for chair and vice chair. The clerk does not vote, and must remain impartial at all times. She is a servant of the Governing Body but is able to give advice about procedure.
