Welcome to Hatsukope School Website
SHORT HISTORY OF HATSUKOPE
About two
hundred years ago, two brothers, Nyadanu and Agbodo left their old settlement “Viepe”
in the Aflao Traditional Area with their wives and
children in search of farm land and settled about six miles away from Viepe.
Nyadanu
who was the elder had three children Haglo, Kwadzo and Hatsu. The younger
child also had two children called Gaglo and Amuzu.
The two
families settled under a very big baobab tree in a village called Tokor but after a couple of years they had a little
disagreement and moved.
At the
new place, they settled near a pond called Logui,
made a little hut with thatched roof and began farming.
As their
children came of age, they got married and started their own vocations as going
to school was not known in that community.
Hatsu who was the
youngest had a small shop and a corn mill close to the Denu-Ho
road. Once a week on recess days when
farming was forbidden, the shop of Hatsu was the
central of attraction as old men from far and near villages came to the shop
and relaxed around it.
It also
happed that when the major survey work on the road was in progress, Hatsu was the first man they encountered, so the surveyor
put the place as Hatsu’s village on the map which was
later translated in the Ewe language HATSUKOPE.
