Parents are always welcome in school. Teachers are usually available for consultation at short notice by phone or in person. Parents can contact the school by phone, email or a note. Parents may catch the teacher in the playground, although they are requested to avoid waylaying teachers just before the start of school when classes are being collected and taken in. Messages for teachers can be left at the reception desk.
At the start of every term, each year group sends home letters outlining the curriculum for that term and giving clear guidance on what homework to expect and how parents can support their children in their learning.
Children will also be given regular newsletters and other important information, which are routinely sent home by pupil post or email. Parents should arrange a regular check system with their child to avoid unnecessary breakdown of communication between home and school. Parents can register with Parentmail (registration forms available from the school office) to receive school generated letters and messages delivered automatically to a chosen email address.
In the first two terms an Open Afternoon is arranged to give parents an opportunity to see their children’s work and admire displays. Consultation meetings are also arranged in the Autumn and Spring Terms for parents to discuss progress and achievement with the class teacher. A written annual report is sent home towards the end of the Summer Term with the opportunity for a further consultation meeting if required.
Throughout the year special events are occasionally organised to enable parents to share in their children’s achievements; understand and appreciate the learning process; gain an insight into the current education system and the way it may develop in the future. A Parents’ Coffee Morning is held every Thursday in the Community Hall between 9am and 10am. Ms Gouveia hosts the event. All parents are welcome – tea, coffee, juice (for the younger siblings), cakes and biscuits are available. (Donations are requested).
The school very much appreciates positive feedback on any aspects of school life which parents and their children value!
