About the PTA
Welcome to PTA
PTA in a nutshell
What does PTA stand for?
Parent Teacher Association
What is it?
Formally, a registered charity (No. 1038520). “The object of the Association is to advance the education of the pupils in the school.” (quote from the PTA's constitution)
In practice, a group of mostly parents and some teachers.
What does the PTA do?
Create fun opportunities for children, parents and staff to socialise, and to raise funds for the school. For example, a school fair with attractions for the children, stalls, food and drinks for everyone.
How does it work?
At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the beginning of each school year, the committee and its Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are elected. There is one formal meeting each term, and informal meetings as required to organise events. Additional helpers then sign up for shifts at the event (sell cake, staff bar etc).
How do I join?
Come to the AGM if you can, otherwise contact us beforehand (see below).
Do I need specific skills?
No, you'll learn from more experienced members and by practice. Although if you do have specific skills or interests (baking, management, shopping, book keeping, writing, photography, public relations, story telling, computing, fund raising, catering, graphics, ...) make sure to let us know!
Why should I join?
The children immensely enjoy the events and the raised funds pay for facilities that would otherwise simply not be available. It’s also a great way to meet other parents and allows one to meet some teachers informally, and see “behind the curtain” a bit how the school works.
How can I contact the PTA?
Send us an email at PTA@miltonroad.cambs.sch.uk, drop a note into the PTA mail box outside the school office or just talk to us if you see us in the playground.
Where can I find more information about this school's PTA?
Go to the school's website and follow the link→ PTA. There you can find the PTA's constitution, minutes of past meetings, treasurer's reports and forms.
Where can I find more information about PTAs in general?
Our PTA is a member of PTA-UK and you can find lots of information on their website at http://pta.org.uk/
